Can You Not See My Beauty?

Just because you are blind and unable to see my beauty doesn’t mean it does not exist. ~ Margaret Cho, BrainyQuote.com

Illustration: The Ignored Beauty of Nature

A violent storm stirs in an awakening

Bitter and cold

A brilliant sun above the horizon, glowing

A sight to behold

For all the hate, anger, and suffering

Still, I see much beauty in this world

Pesky weeds in a sunflower garden

Myriad tiny suns sway in unison

Bright yellow florets dancing in the breeze

White balls of seed ready to ride the wind

Weeds we may be, but…

Can you not see my beauty?

Whispers the dandelion to the mighty sunflower

The grass rustles to the dance of nature

As a gentle breeze caresses its slender blade

On it a little grasshopper alights

While it watches in awe

The fluttering wings of a butterfly

It spreads its folded accordion wings

To reveal its papery translucent fineness

Can you not see my beauty?

Sings the grasshopper to the butterfly

As wars are waged against nature

Animate and inanimate

Should we pause and ponder

In a place where humility and modesty thrive

Perhaps we will find a real sense of joy

In a depth of beauty ignorant to many

And perhaps then

Will we truly be worthy

Of the return of another sunrise

Basking us in the warmth of her eternal glow

Perhaps then…

She was beautiful, for the way she thought. She was beautiful, for the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something she loved. She was beautiful, for her ability to make other people smile, even if she was sad. No, she wasn’t beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. She is beautiful. ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
